The big Pt. Reyes trip

In April 2022 I made a special birding trip with a friend to Pt. Reyes, CA. Here is a selection of the birds (and some other animals) from that trip. These were new species, photographed, for me. Many of them are critters I’d never see here around Quincy.

Day 1: Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area

White-faced Ibis
Snowy Egret
Green-winged Teal
Greater Yellowlegs
Killdeer
Marsh Wren
American Avocet
Least Sandpiper

Day 2: Bear Valley Visitors Center

Columbian Black-tailed Deer
California Quail. A darker morphology than I see of these birds here around Quincy.
Elephant Seal
Elephant Seal

Day 3: Bolinas Lagoon

Long-billed Curlew
Caspian Tern
Marbled Godwit
Bonaparte’s Gull
Greater Scaup
Allen’s Hummingbird

Day 4: Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

Red-eared Slider
California Towhee

Day 5: Chimney Rock Trail

Surf Scoter
Red-necked Grebe
Common Loon
Pelagic Cormorant
Botta’s Pocket Gopher
Common Murre

Day 6: Limantour Beach. It was very foggy on the beach. Not good photography conditions but I made the best of it I could.

Sanderling
Black-bellied Plover
Whimbrel
Snowy Plover

Without doubt, one of the best birding outings I’ve ever been on. Some day I hope to return.
