Banded Red-tailed Hawk

I found a banded Red-tailed Hawk; deceased unfortunately. But I was able to report the band number and location info, etc. A first-time-ever experience for me.

Out on Quincy Junction Road; hawk is to right at base of power pole, just as discovered.
As I walked around, I noticed the bird had a band on one leg.
I repositioned the bird just slightly so I could get closeup photos of the band.
Now I have the complete band number (1957-24828) and both a telephone number and website to which to report the finding. I went with the website.
I received this email in reply from the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory, confirming my report. I received another email letting me know that the data that corresponds to this band number has not yet been entered in the data base, so that likely means this bird was just banded this year as 2022 banding data will not be submitted until beginning in January of 2023.
Most happily, about thirty minutes after finding the deceased Red-tailed Hawk I sighted this gorgeous Red-shouldered Hawk. Simply magnificent.
