New bird species


March and early April have brought three new bird species for me, along with some very notable uncommon visitors. New species: Cackling Goose, Eared Grebe, Red Crossbill. Visitors: Western Kingbird, Cinnamon Teal, Hooded Merganser, Greater Yellowlegs, White-faced Ibis.

Cackling Goose (in foreground). The Cackling Goose looks nearly identical to its much larger cousin the Canada Goose (in background) but has a smaller, triangular bill and shorter neck and is about one-third as large overall.
